50 years after the very first SAIL Amsterdam
SAIL Amsterdam 2025 marks exactly 50 years since the first edition. In 1975, this unique sailing event took place for the first time from August 15th to August 18th. It was a grand celebration of Amsterdam’s 700th anniversary. The Port of Amsterdam helped launch the very first edition of SAIL. More than 500 ships gathered on the IJ, including a huge fleet of traditional Dutch round and flat-bottomed boats. A sight you’ll never forget. This was where it all began for the most beautiful sailing event in the Netherlands.
SAIL 2025 celebrates 750 years of Amsterdam
The overwhelming success of SAIL turned it into a five-year tradition. The 2020 edition had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That only built up the excitement for this tenth edition of SAIL Amsterdam. And a tenth edition deserves something spectacular. But there’s more to celebrate in 2025, and that makes this edition truly unmissable.
In 2025 we celebrate both 50 years of SAIL and 750 years of the beautiful city of Amsterdam. This will be a celebration like no other. Every edition of SAIL has inspired and amazed sailors and maritime fans worldwide. Never before has there been an edition as special as this one.
